Flüchtlingsinitiative Brandenburg / The Refugee Initiative Brandenburg (FIB)
The Refugee Initiative Brandenburg is composed of representatives of refugees in the different asylum homes in the whole of Brandenburg. FIB has, for the past three years, been working voluntarily toward the abolishment of the residence restriction law for refugees, as well as against racial discrimination. In order to draw attention to daily grievances and encourage refugees to defend themselves against the many forms of racism they encounter, the initiative has staged various campaigns. For example, a three-day event calling for the abolishment of the residence restriction law was held from May 17-19, 2001 on the Schlossplatz in Berlin, and the group also staged an art action at the exhibition »Migrations« by Sebastiao Salgado in the Berliner Kronprinzenpalais, in which they hung photographs documenting the reality of refugees’ lives in Germany today next to the actual exhibition pieces.
