Am Donnerstag, 16. Oktober 2008 um 19 Uhr lädt die Werkstatt der Kulturen wieder zu Nollywood Spezial. Gezeigt wird der Film “Grey Focus”, in Anwesenheit der Regisseurin Imeh Esen. Inspired by true events, Grey Focus shocks the viewer with it’s blatant exposure of an ever increasing phenomenon in Nigerian University campuses.

Jeden 3. Donnerstag im Monat präsentiert J. Enoka Ayemba die Videofilmreihe NOLLYWOOD SPEZIAL.
Die Reihe »NOLLYWOOD SPEZIAL« zeigt Filme von im Ausland lebenden nigerianischen Regisseuren, die eine internationale Karriere anstreben und gleichzeitig Nigeria als Stützpunkt nutzen. Sie sind jung und ehrgeizig, leben in Großbritannien, Kanada, Deutschland oder in den USA und produzieren Filme sowohl mit nigerianischem als auch internationalem Appeal. Nollywood, die nigerianische Filmindustrie, ist für diese freiwilligen Exil-Nigerianer ein Segen. Durch sie kann der Traum einer erfolgreichen filmischen Karriere wahr werden. Auffällig ist der neue Finanzierungsmodus der Filme: Um die gewohnten Finanziers der Industrie zu umgehen, entscheiden sie sich dazu, sich auf sich selbst zu stellen und sollten somit als wahre »Independents« der Branche betrachtet werden.
Grey Focus: The past never dies. Akan (Curtis John Miller) finds out that one phone call is about to shatter his serene lifestyle in the United States. Suddenly the past meets the future as he has to relive the violent experiences of his Nigerian past. His membership in a brotherhood is exposed as well as the reason he joins them and the reason he might be running.

Imeh Esen: makes her directorial début with Grey Focus after honing and sharpening her skills by directing 3 short films and working in various capacities on other filmmaker’s projects. As an international filmmaker currently in Europe, an avid traveler, reader and movie watcher, she brings her curiosity and experience of life into her films and stories hopefully leading to an experience that is both emotionally gripping but also very entertaining.
Imeh Esen was born in America, raised as a teenager in Nigeria, spent her adult life in America and currently resides in Europe. She is a graduate of the University of Houston with a degree in Media Production. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, exercising, and movie watching. She can be described as driven, a go-getter, competitive, curious.
Awards: Grey Focus has been officially selected to screen in the African Diaspora Film Festival in New York in November.
The movie Grey Focus was screened at the Zuma film festival in Abuja Nigeria.
It garnered five awards, including the Best Director to Imeh Esen
Kurator: J. Enoka Ayemba arbeitet als Filmkritiker und Referent in Berlin. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind die Kinos Afrikas, die nigerianische Videofilmindustrie und der antikoloniale Widerstand.
