30th anniversary of Steve Biko’s death in detention
There are many questions surrounding the death of Biko, which remain as yet unanswered. The inquest into his death exonerated the police from any blame, yet it was in their custody that this bruised, battered and dying person was driven more than a thousand kilometers in the back of a police van to Pretoria on the 11th of September. It was in their custody that Bantu Steven Biko died on 12 September 1977. [SAHO]
